As the spring breeze blows through the windowsill, the flower stand on my south-facing balcony wakes up first. The tulip bulbs planted last year sprout tender green tips, and several pots of hanging green vines spread down the iron railings, dyeing half the wall soft green. When I get home from work in the evening, I move a small rattan stool to sit by the flower stand, holding a watering can to spray water on the succulents. The water droplets roll on the thick leaves, refracting the pink-purple sunset glow on the horizon. The wind carrying the fragrance of mango trees downstairs blows in, brushing the linen handkerchiefs hanging on the railings, and the air is filled with the faint citrus scent of laundry detergent. Mom always says I've piled the balcony too full, but only I know that this place hides my little expectations for the whole year: waiting for roses to bud in spring, picking mint to make iced drinks in summer, watching chrysanthemums bloom into a warm yellow patch in autumn, and repotting succulents around the heater in winter. You don't need to travel far to find scenery. This few square meters of small space holds all my relaxed leisure time.
